You are part and parcel of the illusory universe or Maya, therefore, your existence also merely an illusion.
Your existence itself is illusory because you are part and parcel of the illusory universe.
You cannot exclude yourself from the universe. You are the ego. The ego is the false self within the universe. The universe is the dualistic illusion or Maya.
To realize the Self you need to first realize the universe is an illusion and you are part and parcel of the illusory universe.

The dualistic illusion or Maya is present in the form of the ‘I’. The is not limited to the ego because ‘I’ is the whole universe.
Without the universe, the ego ceases to exist. The universe hides the Soul, the Self. The Soul, the Self is hidden by the universe because the universe is merely an illusion created out of the Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness.

You, your experience of birth, life, death, and the world are within the dualistic illusion or Maya.
The Soul, the Self has no birth and no death because it is an ever formless, timeless, and spaceless existence.
The Soul, the Self, which is present in the form of the consciousness is the cause of the dualistic illusion or Maya. The dualistic illusion or Maya is present in the form of consciousness.
