To realize our life of pleasure-pain within the world is as real as a dream. Only through Advaitic wisdom, the ‘Self’ becomes free from experiencing the dualistic illusion as reality.
Even in a dream whatever experienced becomes unreal when waking takes place. Similarly, when wisdom dawns one becomes aware of the fact that the Self is neither the waking entity nor the dream entity. Thus whatever experienced as the waking experience is as real as a dream.
Thus for a Gnani, all the three states are merely an illusion created out of consciousness, because he is fully aware of the fact that, the witness of the three states is not the body but consciousness.
A Gnani is fully aware of the fact that his body, ego, and the universe are nothing but consciousness. Thus he finds the experience of any sort is the play of consciousness and experience is merely an illusion. The one that witnesses the experience, which is in the form of the universe or mind is merely an illusion.
Through Advaitic wisdom, one gains Self-awareness in the midst of the dualistic illusion. Self-awareness itself is Brahmic-awareness or God-awareness.

All the Advaitic teachings of the Gurus of the east and west are nothing to do with the Advaitic wisdom of Sage Sankara.
Remember:~Without Sage Sankara there is no Advaita because he is the profounder of the Advaitic wisdom.
Advaita is universal. Advaita is not for sale. Do not buy Advaita from the spiritual supermarket. Advaita is the nature of the Soul, the innermost Self. The world in which you exist is created out of single stuff. That single stuff is consciousness. Knowledge of the single stuff is Advaitic wisdom.
Advaitic truth is very simple, but it is very difficult to realize because you have accumulated mental garbage from different sources in the name of Advaita. Until you discard all the accumulated knowledge you will never be able to realize the Advaitic truth, which is beyond the form, time, and space.
The Advaita is the nature of the Soul, the innermost 'Self' shines on its own awareness when wisdom dawns.
The Advaita is the Soul is the cause and the support of all that exists as the world in which we exist. Advaita is the nature of God, the innermost Self.
The Advaita is present in the form of consciousness. Advaita is the root element of the universe. From the Advaita, the universe comes into existence. In the Advaita, the universe resides. And into the Advaita, the universe is dissolved. The Advaita is the parent of all that is there is.
Upanishads:~ They alone in this world are endowed with the highest wisdom who are firm in their conviction of the sameness and birthlessness of Ataman. The ordinary man does not understand their way. [Chapter IV — Alatasanti Prakarana 95-P-188 in Upanishads by Nikilanada]
If one is seeking truth he has to know Self is not physical but it is the Ataman or Spirit, which is in the form of consciousness.
Sage Sankara says in V C:- 65- As a treasure hidden underground requires (for its extraction) competent instruction, excavation, the removal of stones and other such things lying above it and (finally) grasping, but never come out by being (merely) called out by name, so the transparent Truth of the self, which is hidden by Maya and its effects, is to be attained through the instructions of a knower of Brahman, followed by reflection, meditation and so forth, but not through perverted arguments.
66. Therefore the wise should, as in the case of disease and the like, personally strive by all the means in their power to be free from the bondage of repeated births and deaths.
Most people who write books on nonduality are borrowed ideas from orthodox pundits who have a commercial interest to sell their books or ideas. They have not expounded anything new other than presenting the eastern concepts to suit the western seekers in ornamental words.
Such arguments and orthodox attitude is out-dated and not fit for the modern mindset who are capable of thinking using their own reason. It is no use in arguing with people who live in self-imposed orthodox prison and who impose their false inherited baggage to the next generation.
It is high time for the orthodox cult to wake up and indulge is self-search their belief to realize the non-dualistic truth expounded by the great sage scientists, Sage Sankara.:~
