‘Who AM ‘I’?’ and ‘I AM THAT’ teaching will not help the seeker to unfold the truth hidden by the ignorance. Advaita is the truth hidden by the Dvaita. Advaita is the reality and Dvaita is an illusion.
‘Who AM ‘I’?’ and ‘I AM THAT’ teaching will not help the seeker to unfold the truth hidden by the ignorance. Advaita is the truth hidden by the Dvaita. Advaita is the reality and Dvaita is an illusion.
You and your experience of the world are the product of ignorance. Ignorance is the cause of experiencing the dualistic illusion as a reality.
All the thoughts, words, feelings, the attachment including you and your experience of the world are part of the dualistic illusion. The dualistic illusion (universe) is created out of single stuff. That single stuff is Soul which is present in the form of consciousness.
The Soul is the innermost Self. On the standpoint of the Soul the innermost Self, no second thing exists other than consciousness. Other than knowing the innermost Self, there is nothing to know and realize.
Your sincerity and seriousness will lead you to your spiritual goal. Devotion to the goal of freedom and perfection will make you abandon all theories and systems and live by wisdom, intelligence, and active.
Remember, the ‘Self’ is not you but the Self is the Soul. The ‘Self’ is the fullness of consciousness. There is nothing that exists apart from the consciousness As for Gnani, his individuality is dead. It is merged in the Self like waves in the sea. So, he is in the Soul-awareness. The world in which a Gnani exists not different from consciousness because it is an illusion created out of consciousness.
Remember:~
First, realize the ‘Self is not within you. You are bound by the experience of the birth, life, death, and the world whereas the ‘Self is birthless and deathless because it is an ever formless, timeless, and spaceless existence.
Q:~ R.S:~ “What is an illusion? Maharishi said: To whom is the illusion? Find it out, then the illusion will vanish. Generally, people want to know about illusion and do not examine to whom it is. It is foolish. The illusion is outside and unknown. But the seeker is considered to be known and is inside. Find out what is immediate, intimate, instead of trying to find out what is distant and unknown.” ― Ramana Maharishi, Talks with Ramana Maharshi: On Realizing Abiding Peace and Happiness.
Santthosh Kumaar: ~ When the Self is not the form (body), and then the question of whom does not arise. A deeper self-search reveals the fact that the ‘I’ itself is an illusion. If the ‘I’ is an illusion, then it is no use of enquiring ‘Who Am I?. Till one holds the ‘I’ as the Self, is caught up in the prison of the duality.
Sage Sankara:~ VC~.63: "Without knowing and examining the external world, one can’t know the Truth, as the idea that the external world exists, won't go. It can go only by an inquiry into the nature of the external world.
Deeper Self-search reveals the fact that by inquiring the Who Am I? ~ Advaitic wisdom will not dawn. Who Am I? - inquiry is only for beginners and it is inadequate and useless in the later stages.
That is why Sage Sankara:~ VC~.61~ For one who has been bitten by the serpent of Ignorance, the only remedy is the knowledge of Brahman. Of what avail are the Vedas and (other) Scriptures, Mantras (sacred formulae), and medicines to such a one?
VC- v6~ Let erudite scholars quote all the scripture, let Gods be invoked through sacrifices, let elaborate rituals be performed, let personal Gods be propitiated---yet, without the realization of one‘s identity With the Self, there shall be no liberation for the individual, not even in the lifetimes of a hundred Brahmas put together.
Sage Sankara says: ~A sickness of not cured by saying the word “medicine.” You must take the medicine. Liberation does not come by merely saying the word “Brahman.” Brahman must be realized. Until you allow this apparent universe to dissolve from your consciousness until you have realized Brahman, how can you find liberation just by saying the word Brahman? The result is merely noise. Until a man has destroyed his enemies and taken possession of the splendor and wealth of the kingdom, he cannot become a king by simply saying “I am a king.”
A buried treasure is not uncovered by merely uttering the words: “Come forth.” You must follow the right directions, dig, remove the stones and earth from above it, and then make it your own. In the same way, the pure truth of the Atman, which is buried under Maya and the effects of Maya, can be reached by meditation, contemplation, but never by perverse arguments. : ~ Santthosh Kumaar
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. I can point at the sky, but the seeing of the star is the seeker's own work.
Bhagavad Gita says: ~ Among thousands of men, scarcely one strives for perfection; and of those who strive and succeed, scarcely one knows the ‘Self’ in truth.
The path of wisdom attracts only those who are in search of truth and they appreciate it greatly. The ignorant are not spiritually matured to receive Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana. The ignorant indulge in argument and provocation and personal attack, which hinders their own realization of the ultimate truth or Brahman.
Upanishads:~ Fools dwelling in darkness, but thinking they wise and erudite, go round and round, by various tortuous paths, like the blind led by the blind. (Upanishads Nikilanada - Ch II-5 P-14)
Advaita is not the path of exchange of views or discussion. The seeker has to read think deeply and reflect on the subject constantly until the truth becomes firm. When the seeker has a firm conviction of what is reality then the unreality fades on its own.
Everyone’s inner work is on. Until a man is ripe to receive Self-knowledge, he will not be able to understand what I am saying.
Even they may find it difficult in the first as they go on reading and reflecting repeatedly the post their subconscious will start dropping the dualistic egocentric knowledge and start accepting the Soul-centric Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.
Grasping the truth depends on the spiritual maturity of the seeker. A Gnani shares the knowledge by inspires the serious and sincere seekers of truth and divert their attention towards the inward reality.
As their urge is at the seed level and as they go on reading the words of wisdom it will start growing.
It takes time for the seeker to gain the perfect understanding of ‘what is truth’ and ‘’what is untruth’. It takes time for the Soul, the innermost Self to wake up from the sleep of ignorance, and it takes time for one realizes the truth, which is beyond the form, time, and space
Self-knowledge is not a question and answers session. As the seeker digs into old and new posts he will gradually start understanding and assimilating the Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.
It is a waste of time to spend time in discussion with unqualified people.
Jesus said: ~ “ Do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you. (Matthew -7:6)
~ Jesus meant knowledge of Spirit or God or Self-knowledge should not be shared with unqualified people.
The ultimate truth has to be realized first, and then only it is possible to know what the scriptures are saying. :~ Santthosh Kumaar
Remember this:~
Ashtavakra:~
When Ashtavakra was twelve years old, Janak hosted a huge debating conference. Janak was an emperor, and he invited the pundits of the whole country to debate on the scriptures. He had one thousand cows placed at the palace gate and had the horns of the cows plated with gold and decorated with jewels. He proclaimed, “Whoever is victorious, shall take possession of these cows.”
It was a great debate. Ashtavakra’s father also participated. As dusk was falling, the message came to Ashtavakra that his father was losing. He had already defeated all the others, but he was about to be defeated by a pundit named Vandin. Receiving this message Ashtavakra went to the palace. The hall was decorated. The debate was in its final stage and the decisive moment was fast approaching. His father’s defeat was a complete foregone conclusion – he was on the very edge of defeat.
The pundits saw Ashtavakra as he entered the royal court. They were all learned, scholars. His body was bent and deformed in eight places: he had just to move and anyone would start laughing. His very movement was a laughing matter. The whole meeting broke into laughter. Ashtavakra also roared with laughter. Janak asked, “Everyone else is laughing. I can understand why they laugh, but why did you laugh, my son?”
Ashtavakra said, “I am laughing because the truth is being decided in this conference of butchers” – the man must have been extraordinary. ”What are all these skinners doing here?” A deep silence fell over the meeting. Butchers? Skinners? The king asked,
”What do you mean?”
Ashtavakra said, “It is simple and straightforward: They only see skin, they don’t see me. It is difficult to find a man more pure and simple than me, but they don’t see this; they see a bent and deformed body. They are skinners, they judge by the skin. Your Majesty, in the curve of a temple, is the sky curved? When a pot is smashed, is the sky smashed? The sky is beyond change. My body is twisted, but I am not. Look at the one within. You can’t find anything more straight and pure.”
It was a very startling declaration. There must have been pin-drop silence. Janak was impressed, astounded: “Absolutely right, why had he gathered a crowd of skinners there?” He became repentant, he felt guilty that he too had laughed. That day the king couldn’t manage to say anything, but the following day when he was out on his morning ride he saw Ashtavakra on the way. Janak dismounted from his horse and fell at his feet. The day before, in front of everyone, he couldn’t find the courage.
The day before he had said, “Why do you laugh, my son?” Ashtavakra was a boy of twelve years, and Janak had considered his age. This day he didn’t notice the age. This day he got down from his horse and fell at Ashtavakra’s feet, spread-eagled in prostration.
He said, “Please visit the palace, and satisfy my eagerness for the truth.
Oh lord, be so gracious as to come to my home. I have understood! I couldn’t sleep, the whole night. You spoke truly: what depths of understanding have those who recognize only the body? They are debating the being, but attraction and repulsion for the body still arise; hate and attraction still arise. They are looking at death while talking of the deathless! I’m blessed that you came and disturbed me, that you broke my sleep. Please come to the palace!”
Janak had the palace decorated magnificently. He welcomed Ashtavakra and seated him on a golden throne – this 12-year-old Ashtavakra. Then he put his questions to him. The first sutra is Janak’s inquiry. Janak asked and Ashtavakra explained. Beyond this, nothing is known about Ashtavakra. And there is no need to know more, it is more than enough! Diamonds are not many; only pebbles and rocks are so common. A single diamond is enough. Maha Gita- by Osho:~
Advaitic wisdom is the end of the illusory dualistic knowledge. Acquiring Advaitic wisdom is the goal of every seeker of truth.
Sage Sankara says:~ Let erudite scholars quote all the scripture, Let Gods be invoked through sacrifices, Let elaborate rituals be performed, let personal Gods be propitiated ~ “and without the realization of the Soul as the Self, there shall be no freedom from ignorance.
All the Advaita teaching and teachers of the east and west are based on the dualistic perspective. All the dualistic Advaita propagated today are commercialized by religious, yogic, or intellectual toppings.
All commercial-grade Advaitic teachings are dualistic and lead to hallucinations based on imagination. They buried the real Advaitic wisdom under labyrinths of hotchpotch knowledge from different sources.
They are conceptual and intellectual divisions invented by the Gurus mixing religion; yoga and intellectualism by their excessive analysis and propagated as Advaita.
Fortunate is the seeker who does not lose himself in the labyrinths of philosophy, but indulges in deeper self-search and realizes the ‘Self’ hidden by the universe, which is the dualistic illusion or Maya.
That is why Sage Sankara said:~ Talk as much philosophy as you like, worship as many gods as you please, observe ceremonies, and sing devotional hymns, but liberation will never come, even after a hundred aeons, without realizing the Oneness.
There is no need to study Advaita Vedanta or any scriptures in order to Self-realization.
Upanishad: ~ “The human goal is to acquire Self-Knowledge and they indicate the personal Gods, scriptures, worship, rituals, yogas are not the means to Self –Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana, then why anyone should indulge in it.
The religion, concept of individualized God, belief in physical Gurus; scriptures are a great obstacle to Self-realization because they belong to the dualistic illusion. The seeker needs to mentally transcend the dualistic illusion into a non-dualistic reality.
The seeker of truth has to search for the ultimate truth without losing himself in the labyrinths of philosophy, through deeper Self-search and assimilate and realize it.
Sage Sankara gave religious, ritual, or dogmatic instruction to the ignorant populace but Advaitic wisdom only to the few who could rise to it. Hence, the interpretation of his writings by commentators is often confusing because they mix up the two viewpoints. Thus they may assert that ritual is a means of realizing Brahman, which is absurd.
Sage Sankara: ~” Action (karma) cannot destroy ignorance, for it is not in conflict with or opposed to ignorance. Knowledge does verily destroy ignorance as light destroys deep darkness. ~ Atma Bodha
Sage Sankara:~ “VC Let erudite scholars quote all the scripture, let Gods be invoked through sacrifices, let elaborate rituals be performed, let personal Gods be propitiated---yet, without the realization of one‘s identity With the Self, there shall be no liberation for the individual, not even in the lifetimes of a hundred Brahmas put together (verses-6)
VC- It is clear that the liberation cannot be the result of good works, for Sruti itSelf declares that there is no hope for immortality by means of wealth. (Verses -7)
Veda addresses itself to two kinds of audiences - the ordinary ones who desire the transitory heaven and other pleasures obtained as a result of ritual sacrifices, and the most advanced seeker who seeks to know Brahman.
Thus, the purva mimam.sa, with its emphasis on the karma kanda of the Vedas, is meant for the first audience, to help lead its followers along the way. However, the Vedanta, with its emphasis on the jnana kanda, is meant for those who wish to go beyond the dualistic illusion.
That is why Sage Sankara, indicated in Bhaja Govindam says: ~ (Jnana Viheena Sarva Mathena Bajathi na Muktim janma Shatena) - one without knowledge does not obtain liberation even in a hundred births, no matter which religious faith he follows.
Then it is no use going a roundabout way, trace the Brahman which is the formless substance and witness of the universe, which is in the form of mind. By tracing the source of the mind or universe one will be able to realize the Brahman.
Thus, Self-knowledge is meant only for those who have intense urge, and courage to accept the truth with humility and reject the untruth. Since people start comparing with their scriptural knowledge, it becomes impossible to assimilate and realize the non-dual truth. Therefore, there is no need to convince anyone other than our own selves to get a firm conviction.
So they clearly indicate rituals and theories are not meant for those who are searching for higher knowledge or wisdom. The path of wisdom is the only means.
Isa Upanishads indicate ~ “By worshipping Gods and Goddesses and going to the world of Gods after death is of no use. The time one spends in ritualistic practices is wasted; one can spend the same time moving forward towards Self-knowledge, which is the main goal.
One cannot reach the non-dual destination by glorifying God and Goddesses and by doing that, one goes deeper and deeper into darkness. It surely indicates the fact that the seeker of truth has to drop the worshiping God and Goddess in order to get Self-knowledge. : ~Santthosh Kumaar
God in truth is hidden by the illusory form, time, and space. God means eternal existence hidden by the form, time, and space. God expresses in two ways, dual and nondual. God is the unmanliest source of the dual. The manifested dual existence is merely an illusion.
You cannot call God “he,” you cannot call God “she, because he or she individualizes God whereas God is not an individual because God is a formless, timeless, and spaceless existence.
For centuries the word ‘he’ has been used for God. God is present in the form of the Spirit. The Spirit is present in the form of consciousness.
If you really want to go deep into the phenomenon of God, Then God does not exist at all ~as an individual because God pervades in everything and everywhere. God is only a presence.
In other words, there is no religious God but only consciousness. Consciousness pervades, permeates, in the world in which we all exist.
Once you start thinking of God as consciousness, your whole outlook on life, on religion, on love, will be totally different. The real existence consists not of the dualistic illusion but nondualistic reality.
God is not physical. God is present in the form of the Spirit. The Spirit is the cause of the world and the Spirit itself’ is uncaused.
On the standpoint of the Spirit, the form, time, space, and name are merely an illusion. The Spirit alone is real and all else is an illusion. In reality, the spirit (God) matter (the world in which we exist) are one.
Bhagavad Gita: ~ ‘Brahmano hi pratisthaham’ ~ Brahman (God) is considered the all-pervading consciousness (Spirit), which is the basis of all the animate and inanimate entities and material. (14.27).
When Bhagavad Gita says, God is considered the all-pervading consciousness (Spirit) which is the basis of all the animate and inanimate entities and material then nothing has to be accepted as God other than consciousness.
Lord Krishna Says Ch ~V: ~ “Those who know the Self in truth.". The last two words (tattvataha) are usually ignored by pundits, but they make all the difference between the ordinary concept of God and the truth about God.
The dualistic worship of "God” is only for the ignorant populace. The God in truth is only Atman, the ‘Self’. In reality, there is no duality, no differentiation. Only Atman exists.
The Vedas confirms God is Atman (Spirit), the ‘Self’.
Rig Veda:~ 'Prajnanam Brahma': - Consciousness is the ultimate reality or Brahman or God in truth.
Rig Veda: ~ The Atman (Soul or Spirit) is the cause; Atman is the support of all that exists in this universe. May ye never turn away from the Atman, the ‘Self’. May ye never accept another God in place of the Atman nor worship other than the Atman?" (10:48, 5)
Rig-Veda 1-164-46 and Y.V 32-1 clearly mention that God is “One”.
Rig Veda declares God is ‘ONE’ and God is Atman, then why to believe and worship in place of real God.
Brihad Upanishad: ~ “If you think there is another entity, whether man or God there is no truth."
Upanishad itself declares: ~ Sarvam khalvidam brahma ~ all this (universe) is verily Brahman. By following back all of the relative appearances in the world, we eventually return to that from which it is all manifest – the non-dual reality (Chandogya Upanishad).
Sage Sankara’s Supreme Brahman (God) is impersonal, Nirguna (without Gunas or attributes), Nirakara (formless), Nirvisesha (without special characteristics), immutable, eternal, and Akarta (non-agent). It is above all needs and desires. It is always the Witnessing Subject. It can never become an object as it is beyond the reach of the senses. Brahman is non-dual, one without a second. It has no other beside it. It is destitute of difference, either external or internal. Brahman cannot be described because the description implies a distinction. Brahman cannot be distinguished from any other than It. In Brahman, there is not a distinction between substance and attribute. Sat-Chit-Ananda constitutes the very essence or Svarupa of Brahman and not just Its attributes. The Nirguna Brahman of Sage Sankara is impersonal.
Sage Sankara: ~"That which permeates all, which nothing transcends and which, like the universal space around us, fills everything completely from within and without, that Supreme non-dual Brahman (God)."
Thus, truth realization is Self-realization. The Self -realization is God-realization. God-realization itself is real worship. : ~ Santthosh Kumaar
